FCT announces multi-city effort to support homeless and at-risk youth

FCT has donated more than $30,000 to support this important cause through partnerships with nine community organizations

OAKVILLE, September 10, 2020 – FCT, the national leader in title insurance and real estate technology, today announced a multi-city effort to support Canadians impacted by youth homelessness. Through partnerships with nine community organizations across the country, FCT has donated $30,000 to support meal programming for homeless and at-risk youth.

FCT’s donations will help to raise awareness and provide support for youth impacted by COVID-19 in the communities in which FCT operates, including 360kids (the GTA), Covenant House (Vancouver), Good Shepherd Centres (Hamilton), Laing House (Dartmouth), Le Bon Dieu dans la rue (Montreal), West End 24 Hour Safe Space (Winnipeg), Wood’s Homes (Calgary), Youth Impact Jeunesse Inc. (Moncton) and Youth Opportunities Unlimited (London).

“At FCT, we’re invested in our communities and are committed to driving positive change any way we can,” said Michael LeBlanc, CEO, FCT. “We recognize that every bit counts and in light of COVID-19, we’re focusing on a cause that is important to our company and our employees across the country. We wanted to support the great work our community partners are doing to provide critical resources for homeless and at-risk youth during these unsettling times.”

Testimonials from FCT’s community partners:

360kids

“We believe that every young person deserves a safe place to call home. While we have certainly seen challenges in the past, few in our 30 years have come close to COVID-19,” said Daniel Zaroski, senior development associate, corporate and foundations. “Each day, we have anywhere from 30 to 50 youth attend our Richmond Hill home base to access our meal programs, and our biggest need during the pandemic has been stocking our food bank. FCT’s support during this time has been critical to helping youth in the GTA overcome this crisis and transition to a state of safety and stability.”

Covenant House Vancouver

“We exist to provide love, hope and opportunity to youth in Vancouver experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Partnerships with organizations like FCT are key to helping us provide access to adequate food and proper nutrition to the young people we work with,” said Alison Brodie, development officer, corporate and foundation giving. “This partnership will help form the building blocks for youth to live healthy, fulfilling and productive lives, often for the very first time.”

Good Shepherd Centres

“FCT’s dedication to creating opportunities for positive change aligns with our core mission and values,” said Norma Joaquim, director, youth services. “Our main goal is to restore hope with support that will help young parents break the cycle of poverty for multiple generations. We are excited to have FCT alongside us, working together to build healthy and resilient communities for young moms and their children in Hamilton.

Laing House

“At Laing House, we offer innovative youth engagement and peer support programs to empower youth living with mental illness,” said Kyle Kelly, program team manager. “As we navigate challenges brought on by the pandemic, we are working to address food insecurity by encouraging youth to access our online community of healthy living programs. FCT’s support is integral to expand this offering and help fill a gap for many young people in Nova Scotia.”

Dans la rue

“Because of support from partners like FCT, we are able to provide homeless youth in Montreal with the skills and resources needed to lead more autonomous lives,” said Cécile Arbaud, executive director. “This includes emergency accommodation, family services, education and meals – none of which would be possible without their support.”

West End 24 Hour Safe Space (WE24)

“As an organization providing at least two meals a day to homeless youth in Winnipeg, FCT’s meal programming support has been instrumental,” said David F. Cole, director of operations. “This partnership has supported us in providing crucial resources to those who need it most and helped our communities get through one of the toughest times we’ve ever seen.”

Wood’s Homes

“We strive to provide services that promote and restore the well-being of children and families, and an important piece to that puzzle is meal programming,” said Ave Maria Beltran, community engagement coordinator. “Investing in both the mental and physical health of Calgarians in need wouldn’t be possible without partners like FCT, with their funding helping to expand our food security support and improve our programming by providing individuals with more independence in meal planning. We are truly grateful for their support.”

Youth Impact Jeunesse Inc.

“There are hundreds of at-risk and homeless youth across New Brunswick, who have fallen through the cracks of society and are deprived of the services available to them to become healthy and successful adults. This generous gift from FCT helps bridge the gaps in young peoples lives by meeting basic needs and opening doorways to education, employment and healthy futures,” said Mel Kennah, executive director.

“We are grateful to our community partners like FCT, who help us make a positive difference in the lives of at-risk youth here in Moncton through Youth QUEST Central,” said Tracy Cormier, associate director.

Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU)

“For nearly 40 years, YOU has helped homeless and at-risk youth in London build the skills, confidence and independence required to reach their full potential and lead positive lives,” said Jamie Lee Arseneau, community engagement coordinator. “Thanks to community partners like FCT, we are able to kick-off brand new initiatives, such as serving meals to youth accessing emergency shelter services in our community. We’re excited to receive this support and to get one step closer to achieving our mission of helping lead youth toward success.”

OAKVILLE, April 17, 2020 – FCT, the national leading technology and service provider in real estate, today announced it is one of the Best Workplaces™ in Canada for the sixth consecutive year, according to the Great Place to Work® Institute. Last month, the company was also recognized by the Great Place to Work Institute as one of the nation’s Best Workplaces™ for Women.

Organizations listed on the Best Workplaces™ in Canada list are chosen based on feedback provided by their employees in a survey and Great Place to Work Institute’s in-depth review of company practices and programs.

“In the current environment, earning the recognition from the Great Place to Work® Institute as one of Canada’s Best Workplaces takes on added significance,” said Michael LeBlanc, CEO, FCT. “While these results reflect our great work prior to the pandemic, we remain committed to providing our employees with a supportive and engaging work environment.”

FCT awards the Honourable William G. Davis Scholarship to disadvantaged student challenged by homelessness

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, October 10, 2019 – FCT, the national leader in title insurance and real estate technology, announced the company awarded $5,000 through the Honourable William G. Davis Scholarship to Geoffrey Fornoles, a disadvantaged secondary school student who was confronted with the challenges of homelessness in the past year. The scholarship will help fund his post-secondary education as he enrolls in a Computer Science program.

Fornoles was selected through a partnership with Home Suite Hope, a charitable organization that fills a gap in the shelter system by providing transitional housing to the growing homeless population in the Halton Region. Opening up about the struggles he faced last year, Fornoles had the following to say about the Honourable William G. Davis Scholarship: “The previous year was challenging for my mom and I as we were at risk of being homeless for months, continuously struggling to make ends meet. I am not able to save much money for my post-secondary education, so being awarded this scholarship is a huge help.”

“As an organization, we are committed to combating youth homelessness in Canada and our scholarship is one of the ways we do so,” said Michael LeBlanc, CEO of FCT. “We recognize that attending post-secondary education is challenging for youth who face the risk of homelessness, so we’re making an impact by helping alleviate some of the costs of attending college or university for disadvantaged youth.”

Since launching the scholarship program in 2015, FCT has helped 16 deserving students offset some of the financial challenges of a post-secondary education. The scholarship program was named after The Honourable William G. Davis, the 18th Premier of Ontario, whose passion for education contributed to his work in building Ontario’s community college system.

FCT’s Ryan Lambert recognized as one of Canadian Mortgage Professional magazine’s 2019 Young Guns for leading product innovation at FCT

Leading industry publication ranked Lambert among the top 40 mortgage professionals across Canada under 35 who are primed to become the next generation of industry leaders

OAKVILLE, ON, August 9, 2019 – Ryan Lambert, head of product and innovation at FCT, was named one of Canadian Mortgage Professional (CMP) magazine’s Young Guns in 2019 for leading digital product innovation at FCT. The CMP Young Guns ranking recognizes 40 of the mortgage industry’s young professionals under 35 who have made a significant impact and achieved a high level of success in their respective roles.

Lambert’s primary responsibility at FCT is developing and bringing to market products that digitize the home-buying cycle from start to finish. He is leading the charge on FCT’s innovative efforts to transform the real estate transfer and mortgage lending process to an all-digital, seamless experience.

“Right now, our industry is stuck in this strange half-digital, half-offline state. There are slick front-end digital applications and pre-approvals, but condition fulfillment and closing are still rooted in paper. I’m not sure this hybrid state actually creates the right experience for anyone in the value chain,” said Lambert. “How do we go beyond the basics of digital mortgage and create a fully digital buying, selling or refinancing experience? Creating a more integrated “search to keys” experience is what I’m focused on right now.”

Daniela DeTommaso, head of FCT’s data strategy, explains why Lambert is a key part of FCT’s success, “Ryan is leading the charge of bringing to life FCT’s vision for an all-digital home-buying process. We are so excited that he has been recognized by CMP and awarded this prestigious honour as it demonstrates his commitment to our customers and FCT.”

FCT recognized as a Best Workplace™ for the fifth year in a row

FCT named by the Great Place to Work® Institute as one of the Top 50 Best Workplaces in Canada

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, April 26, 2019 – The Great Place to Work® Institute has named FCT one of the “Top 50 Best Workplaces” in Canada for the fifth consecutive year as part of its 2019 Best Workplaces list. FCT remains the first and only title insurance company to make the “Top 50 Best Workplaces” list.

FCT, which is included the “Top 50 Best Workplaces” Large and Multinational category, has been recognized as a Best Workplace™ because of its commitment to building an environment where employees have the opportunity to be great. Through its benefits and recognition programs, employee volunteering and other initiatives, FCT is invested in its employees, its customers and the communities in which it operates.

Michael LeBlanc, CEO of FCT, explains “Our employees are at the heart of what we do. They drive the business decisions we make for today and for the future. In turn, we are invested in them by creating a work environment that encourages them to grow. This recognition is proof of that. We’re deeply honoured to be recognized by The Great Place to Work Institute, but even more proud of our employees, who make FCT a great place to work.”

FCT was selected among hundreds of companies vying for a place on the list this year. Applicant companies must participate in an employee survey and respond to an in-depth questionnaire about their company programs and practices that is closely evaluated by the Great Place to Work Institute.

The competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from confidential employee survey results and the remaining one-third comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture. This year’s list received over 400 registrations and over 80,000 employees participated in the 2019 “Best Workplaces™ in Canada” survey.
