FCT Congratulates Michael LeBlanc on Honorary Skate Oakville Bursary

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, June 10, 2013 – FCT, (First Canadian Title) congratulates Chief Operating Officer Michael LeBlanc who was recently recognized for his many years of leadership and volunteer service to Skate Oakville with an honorary bursary.

On behalf of FCT, I would like to congratulate Michael LeBlanc on receiving this honour. It is a fitting tribute to Michael as the criteria for the award describes Michael to a tee -strong work acumen, team player, supportive of others, positive attitude and strong community spirit,” said Pat Chetcuti, FCT President.

Michael LeBlanc spent 7 years as Skate Oakville Club President. The bursary in his name will be awarded annually in the amount of $500. Applicants must submit a 250 word essay which is screened by the Club’s Board of Directors.

Michael spent most of the last decade volunteering his time with the Club and our Board of Directors. It was under his leadership and it was his vision that saw Skate Oakville transition to a Club that provides programs that appeal to skaters across all disciplines and inspires excellence in all of our skating members, coaches, staff and volunteers,” said Doug Shelley, Skate Oakville President. “We are honoured that he agreed to be part of the establishment of this bursary and hope it will be an appropriate legacy for his contributions to Skate Oakville for years to come.”

It is an honour to be recognized by Skate Oakville with this bursary in my name. Skate Oakville is a great organization and I have been privileged to work with everyone involved in making it not only the largest skating club in Canada but one of the best given the ability to provide programs for skaters of all disciplines and skill sets. The Club continues to serve the entire community of Oakville and I am very proud of all their accomplishments. It was a delight to provide the first bursary to Heather Martin and I wish her continued success in her skating career,said Michael LeBlanc.

About the Skate Oakville Michael LeBlanc Bursary

The bursary honours the hard work and dedication of Michael LeBlanc to the Skate Oakville club and community, and his passion to help young skaters achieve their goals. The $500 bursary is awarded to a deserving skater based upon any or all of the following criteria:

  • Strong work acumen: applicants must display this with respect to developing skating skills both on and off the
  • Applicant should be a team player as a skater, supportive of others within the club, and possess a positive
  • Skating accomplishments (these may be competitive, test, or personal)
  • Academic excellence
  • Strong community spirit, displayed through community giving either with extra-curricular or school
