FCT and Dye & Durham Limited (TSX: DND) have taken another step forward in their shared commitment to protect and modernize the real estate process in Canada. The two organizations have partnered to launch a new Electronic ID Verification (E-IDV) feature within the Unity® Practice Management platform, bringing secure, digital identity verification directly into the tools legal professionals rely on every day.

This collaboration combines FCT’s expertise in fraud prevention and title insurance with Dye & Durham’s leading practice management technology, giving legal professionals a simpler and more secure way to verify client identities at the very start of a real estate transaction.

A trusted solution for a growing need

Fraud prevention and regulatory compliance have become top priorities for law firms, notaries, and lenders across the country. With new expectations around “know your client” (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) obligations, firms are being asked to verify identities more rigorously—often under tight timelines.

The new E-IDV capability allows legal professionals to complete this verification step directly within Unity®, eliminating the need for separate systems or manual verification. This integration streamlines workflows, minimizes duplicate data entry, and ensures personal information is transmitted securely while providing clients with a seamless experience from the moment their transaction begins.

“At FCT, we know our customers value efficiency,” said Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc, Vice President, Legal Solutions, FCT. “This integration brings our Client ID Verification solution directly into lawyers’ and notaries’ day-to-day workflows, allowing identity verification to be completed at the start of a transaction with the same trust and confidence legal professionals expect from FCT’s solutions.”

Innovation through collaboration

FCT and Dye & Durham have built a strong relationship over years of collaboration, united by a shared goal: making the real estate process more efficient, compliant, and secure. The introduction of E-IDV within Unity® marks the next evolution in that partnership, reflecting how technology and industry expertise can work hand in hand to create practical solutions that protect both professionals and their clients.

By embedding identity verification directly within the conveyancing process, this integration helps legal professionals meet compliance obligations while reducing the risk of fraud. It’s a tangible example of how collaboration between trusted industry leaders can address the realities of today’s real estate environment—one where speed, accuracy, and security are all of critical importance.

“The addition of E-IDV to Unity® underscores our focus on delivering integrated, compliance-ready tools that keep pace with the realities of today’s real estate market,” said Pablo Rodriguez, President, Dye & Durham Canada. “Law firms are being asked to do more to prevent fraud and prove due diligence, often under tight timelines. By bringing electronic ID verification into the platform they already use, we’re helping make the homebuying process simpler, faster and more secure for both firms and Canadians.”

A more efficient and secure real estate experience

With more than 350,000 real estate transactions processed on Unity® in 2024, this enhancement gives legal professionals a new level of efficiency and confidence when managing their clients’ most important transactions. By integrating E-IDV directly into their daily workflow, users can complete critical due diligence steps faster—without sacrificing security or accuracy.

For homebuyers, this means a smoother process and greater peace of mind that their personal information is being protected by trusted industry leaders. For legal professionals, it represents a more unified, compliant, and forward-looking way to work—one that keeps pace with both regulatory change and customer expectations.

Together, FCT and Dye & Durham are helping to define the future of secure digital conveyancing in Canada, where innovation and trust go hand in hand.
